I don’t know why many people switched. Here are some of the reasons that might be interesting to you:
- It somehow shields you from Terminal.app crash when you are typing a lot via “Input methods”.
- It is faster. (this is probably not true, my benchmark “time cat rfc3261.txt” tells me that screen is faster.
- It is heavily, actively developed.
- it’s BSD-licensed, duh…
